University Campus – Domestic Wastewater Treatment – 3,500 PE/day
Project Details
In 2016, Boğaziçi University upgraded its wastewater treatment plant by replacing the existing blower-based activated sludge system with PlanetDISK® Rotating Biological Contactor (RBC) technology.
The previous system required a 25 kW blower, creating high energy demand for the campus. By installing eight PlanetDISK® units, total aeration power was reduced to approximately 3 kW, resulting in nearly 88% energy savings.
Designed to serve 3,500 PE and 700 m³/day, the treatment plant provides stable performance with minimal operator involvement while enabling partial reuse of treated effluent for landscape irrigation. The upgrade significantly reduced operating costs and the campus carbon footprint.
